Experience the raw, red-earth beauty of Northern Kenya with Pomper Adventures & Safaris. Our 3-day Samburu expedition takes you beyond the usual tourist circuits and into the heart of the Samburu National Reserve. This is a land defined by the life-giving Ewaso Ng’iro River, towering doum palms, and a collection of rare wildlife you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
Staying at the iconic Samburu Sopa Lodge, you’ll enjoy elevated views of the Matthew’s Range and a front-row seat to the lodge’s floodlit waterhole, where elephants and predators often visit for a nightcap.
The Star Attraction: The “Samburu Special Five”
The North is famous for its endemic species—five rare animals perfectly adapted to this semi-arid wilderness. On this trip, we track:
-
The Reticulated Giraffe: Famous for its striking, geometric “net-like” coat pattern.
-
Grevy’s Zebra: Taller than common zebras, featuring narrow stripes and large, rounded ears.
-
The Gerenuk: The “giraffe-necked” antelope that stands on its hind legs to reach high branches.
-
Beisa Oryx: A regal desert antelope with long, rapier-like horns.
-
Somali Ostrich: Distinctive for the indigo-blue skin on its neck and legs.
